Significant increase
Sunday, August 20, 2006
Editor, The News:
In regards to the University of Michigan dioxin study of area residents, I am
perplexed why reports in The News didn't
stress that Tittabawassee River flood plain residents had 28 percent higher
dioxin levels in their blood than the control group in Jackson and Calhoun
counties.
Considering that Dr. Linda Birnbaum, an Environmental Protection Agency dioxin
expert, has stated that the agency is seeing health effects in people with
background levels in their blood similar to those in Jackson and Calhoun
counties, a 28 percent increase seems significant to me.
